Tracey Johnson has been CEO of Sandstone Healthcare since 2012, leading the organization from a single charitable GP practice in Queensland’s most disadvantaged suburb to a nationally recognized model of integrated, team-based primary care. Under her leadership, Sandstone has won Practice of the Year awards, secured major innovation grants, and pioneered solutions recommended for national adoption. A Churchill Fellow, health economist, and co-founder of Cubiko, Tracey is a fierce advocate for health equity.
Tracey says: ‘In my early thirties, I agonized over the question in leadership books, “What’s your personal mission?” The answer came to me one morning at our breakfast bar: enable everyone to be their best every day. It’s been my North Star ever since.’
At Sandstone, this means creating trusted, collaborative relationships where patients are equal partners, clinicians work as teams, and innovation never stops. I love data – by staying research-active doors open for better decisions and the national adoption of new models of care. That delivers impact; at a patient and provider level and also across the country.
Where you live should never determine your potential. Or your healthcare either. I didn’t think I was the best at anything growing up and I didn’t have a lot of confidence. I was the first in my family to finish high school but somehow I’ve ended up in positions with the power to make a difference. I’m determined to make the most of it.
We’re passionate about good health.
This means our whole team – GPs, nurses, allied health, specialists – work together to give you the time and attention you need. We get to know you, earn your trust, and use our combined specialties to offer new and improved models of care.
Our team sees this as a partnership with you because you know your own life best. And with each other, because great healthcare isn’t a solo act.
As a not-for-profit practice, we invest profits back into bringing fairness and quality healthcare to the communities who need it.
We put our passion into practice because that’s what the best healthcare needs.
